An Ancient Sienese Dessert

In the “book of memoirs” from 1595, housed in the municipal archives of Buonconvento, we can find the first recipe for PANPEPATO, which calls for 15 main ingredients:
honey, sugar, wheat flour, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, candied papaya, candied citron, candied orange, lemon zest, coriander, cinnamon, aromatic pepper (Pieper Cubebe), cloves, and nutmeg, all mixed together with water.
